Firstly the do nots. Do not use a bar of soap, we have come a long way from the days of soap and water. Do not where possible use cleansing wipes, they have no therapeutic benefits to the skin. And definitely stay away from the cheaper wipes that may contain harmful/harsh preservatives. Many of these wipes contain strong fragrances that can be skin irritating. They may remove make up, but they cannot effectively clean the skin, removing bacteria and debris.
In our opinion the best cleansers are the wash off kind and better still use a cloth. Cloths will add a gentle exfoliating action, helping to remove dead skin cells, encouraging new cell turnover. If you are removing make up we’d recommend a double cleanse and finish with the cloth to give the skin a nice polish.
Most modern cleansers do not contain sulphates (SLS & SLES), these are surfactants and foamers and are totally unnecessary in skincare. They can be very stripping, drying and potential irritants. If you have sensitive skin avoid at all costs. Whilst we all love a nice smell, many can be overpowering and it is such a personal preference, try going fragrance neutral, perfume is another well documented skin irritator.
With inflammation being a key driver to poor skin condition, why consciously choose to inflame it further by bombarding it with unnecessary and harsh chemicals. Be kind to your skin and it will reward you with a wonderful vitality and freshness. Liquorice Root Extract is a superb anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredient. Others are Panthenol (vitamin B5), Allantoin, Arnica and Chamomile, which can all be found in the epiderma5 Pure Cleanse, which is also fragrance, SLS, SLES and paraben free.
